This guide will help to understand and identify issues with automatic volume transfer. It will also show an alternative in case automatic transfer is currently not possible.
It is always recommended to transfer your volume automatically to prevent manual work. For details of the transferred data see https://kgs-software.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DOCUEN/pages/3707109381/Volume+Measurement+-+FAQ+and+Troubleshooting#What-kind-of-data-are-transferred%3F
In tia® Content Server (core) the easiest solution is to use the status UI to check the connection status.
Open the Status UI tia® Status User-Interface, login if required. Select “View Volume Usage”:
A Popup opens with Volume Information for the last Month:
Connection establised | Connection establised | Connection not established |
---|---|---|
![]() | ![]()
| ![]() |
Connection is estabished, but there are no Volume data available, volumes become available earlies after one month of established connection. | Connection is established, data are available. | Connection is not established, but configuration for automatic transfer is configured. |
Make sure the configuration is as described https://kgs-software.atlassian.net/wiki/x/SwDR3 . Minimun requirement for the configuration is volumecounter.file.counterSender.isActive = true
and volumecounter.file.counterSender.targetUrl
.
Proxies are supported too and can be configured with or without password: https://kgs-software.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DOCUEN/pages/3704684619/Automatic+transfer+of+volume+data#Proxy-Configuration
When the connection shows an error check the log for more information, make sure the log level is WARN, Volume transfer issues do not interfere with document storage and therefore are not logged on error level:
Error like “java.io.IOException: proxyvoli: <error Message>
” or java.io.IOException: VCRS responses with <error Message>
indicate issues with the proxy like the proxy is not available or login is not valid.
An issue java.io.IOException: vcrs: <error Message>
means that the server cannot be reached because of network issues. Make sure the tia® Content Server (core) can reach the current URL as described here: https://kgs-software.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DOCUEN/pages/3704684619/Automatic+transfer+of+volume+data#Activation-of-automatic-transfer.
It is also possible that the data on the storage are not correct, in this case the error is “<error Message> while sending volume counters to VCRS.
“. Please contact kgs for further instructions.
If the validation that the URL is reachable is done with a browser be aware that proxy configuration and network access can be different than the connection settings from tia® Content Server (core). |
In this case there are two possible causes:
a test license is used see the field “License Type/Status
” test licenses are marked as “TEST / Valid
“. It is not possible to transfer volume with a test license.
a configuration is missing or the configuration is wrong: check settings from https://kgs-software.atlassian.net/wiki/x/SwDR3 again. The button only appears when the configuration is done.
Yes, http or https Proxy with or without login are supported, make sure your proxy configuration is up to date. The configuration reference can be found here: https://kgs-software.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DOCUEN/pages/3704684619/Automatic+transfer+of+volume+data#Proxy-Configuration
If is not possible that the tia® Content Server (core) can reach the target URL a manual export can be done. Use the Status UI tia® Status User-Interface, login if required and click on “Download Volume Usage
“. A File is downloaded to the computer send it e.g. by E-Mail to your kgs contact person.
Please make sure that the automatic process is working again, to prevent repetitive manual work.
Use this guide to analyse the connection issues or contact our support.
Manual transfer of volume data
No, a production license is required.
In a Manuel transfer all data are exported, the file can take some time to create and can have a huge size. Automatic transfers limit the export to three month.
see Explanation of volume export data
The goal was to send as less times as possible to ensure complete datasets.
The sending rule are:
6 minutes after start of tia® Content Server (core)
first of every month. between 1-2 o’clock
two weeks after the last transfer. (usually 15. of every month)
The content is explained here. Be aware that only the last three month are transferred. It is possible that kgs requests a manual data export to complete the export data.
